Teen Entrepreneur Challenge: Engineering Public Health Solutions – July 6-16, 2020

Collaboration Fuels Innovation

The 2020 Teen Entrepreneur Challenge (TEC) at Penn State Lehigh Valley will be held virtually (via Zoom). TEC educates, trains and prepares the next generation of innovators for success. Rising high school sophomores, juniors and seniors learn key strategies for starting a business or business concept, and how to develop an entrepreneurial edge.

The 2020 virtual challenge will introduce students to the various public health issues we are facing as a nation and teach them how to apply entrepreneurial thinking to create business solutions to address these issues. Students will complete two projects during this program:

- Develop Public Service Announcements (PSAs) highlighting a public health concern
- Utilize entrepreneurial thinking to develop a business profile that will address their highlighted public health topic

Programming and Outcomes

All programming will be held virtually this year. Formal instruction will take place Monday-Thursday during the two-week period for approximately 3 hours per day. Additional time will be required outside of 'classroom' hours to complete assignments. Experiences and outcomes include:
  • featured speakers from local businesses and virtual ‘field trips’
  • real-world case studies and problem-solving activities
  • explore ideas on sustainability, improving existing processes, and adaptability
  • effectively articulate and present a public health issue and produce a quality public health message
  • develop and enhance new technology skills
  • explore STEAM educational programming
  • program culminates with a pitch competition including prizes

Cost & Registration

The cost to participate is $350. Registrations will be accepted through June 19, 2020, or until the program is filled.

6/18/20 UPDATE: Registration is now closed to public - only registrants that have been provided a Promo code will be able to register. If you have not been given a Promo code and would like to inquire about registration, please contact ezt158@psu.edu.

If you are a need-based student, please fill out the financial assistance application. Please note that the deadline for the application is June 5, 2020 and applying does not guarantee assistance.

Get an Inside Look

The Teen Entrepreneur Challenge is typically a 10-day residential experience. While we are not able to offer a residential camp this year, please view this short recap video to get a glimpse into what the program has offered in the past and will continue to offer in years to come. While our 'field trips' and experiences will be held virtually this year, the programming, experiences, and life-long friendships will persist.
